Public Health Achievements vs Public Health Failures: make your own lists!

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recently published the 10 Public Health Achievements of First Decade of 21st Century. Tobacco control, occupational safety, cancer prevention are included in the list and all in all present quite a positive image on what has been done so far.

As this list refers manily to the US, I was wondering what would a similar list look like for my country of origin. Or for  the coutnry I currently live. Or for the whole of Europe. Or for your country. Would it include some of the same achievements? Would others have won a place in the podium instead?

And thinking even further (yes, on a Friday afternoon!) should we also produce lists of “Public Health Failures”? If you were to make such a list, what would you include?
