Realizing TMN-like Management Services in TINA
by Pavlou, George; Griffin, David
Telecommunications Information NetworkingArchitecture (TINA) provides an architecture based ondistributed computing technologies to enabletelecommunications networks to support the flexibleintroduction and operation of new advanced services and tomanage both the services and the network in anintegrated fashion. While the service operation andmanagement aspects are well advanced, network management aspects are less well defined. ResourceConfiguration Management (RCM) is one of the mostimportant management areas as it covers, among others, the management of static topology and dynamicconnectivity resources; these are both fundamental to theoperation of TINA services. In this paper we presentfirst an analysis of RCM, which results in introducinga new domain that deals with the configuration of management resources, in addition to network, service and computing resources. We then present ageneric model for configuration management computationalentities; this separates specific task-oriented aspects from generic resource representationsaccessed in a flexible fashion. The genericcomputational interface and relevant methodology forrepresenting and accessing resources are influenced fromOSI/TMN design principles, but make use of the TINAODP-based Distributed Processing Environment (DPE).Based on this generic model, we present an RCM systemarchitecture that deals with network and management resources. Parts of the latter have beenverified through a prototype implementation in thecontext of a real field trial.

An Overview of the TINA Management Architecture
by Hamada, Takeo; Kamata, Hiroshi; Hogg, Stephanie
This paper presents an overview of theTelecommunications Information Networking Architecture(TINA) management architecture, using four distinctaxes: partitioning, functional, computational and lifecycle. The TINA management architecture is shown tosatisfy service and resource management requirements ina distributed, multi-stakeholder environment.

TINA and the Software Infrastructure of the Telecom Network of the Future
by Prozeller, Paul
The overall goal of the TelecommunicationsInformation Networking Architecture (TINA) is to defineand specify a software architecture for thetelecommunications infrastructure which encompassesnetworking, network services, and operations, to handle theincreasingly distributed nature of software in networks. The purpose of this paper is to describe how TINA may bepositioned in the software infrastructure of future telecommunications networks, with thefocus on the infrastructures of Public TelecommunicationOperators (PTOs). An architecture for a new PTO networkinfrastructure is proposed and the needs that this architecture satisfies are discussed. The concept of the “programmable network” isintroduced to satisfy the PTO need to quickly trial anddeploy new services. Five aspects of this targetarchitecture are discussed, namely: a client/serverarchitecture, a service creation architecture, anapplication architecture, a PTO federation architecture, and a new management architecture. The potential role of TINA in each aspect is described, and thepotential benefits of TINA to PTOs aresummarized.
