We recently published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.springerlink.com\/content\/l871277j74v3wu50\/\">a special issue on the subject, <\/a>as well as a Supplement on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.springerlink.com\/content\/nv0750116h06\/?p=9738ead9412842549bfe9c1d614bc18f&amp;pi=5\">social determinants of child and adolescent health<\/a>. We are, therefore, happy to see that there is a movement towards more research on socioeconomic inequalities in health, as well as efforts to tranlsate this research into practice; a fine example of that is the news of the launch of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.instituteofhealthequity.org\/\">UCL Institute of Health Equity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The institute was launced today (21 November 2011) by the UK health secretary <a href=\"http:\/\/www.andrewlansley.co.uk\/\">Andrew Lansley<\/a> and<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/silva\/epidemiology\/people\/marmotmg.htm\"> Professor Sir Michael Marmot<\/a> who will be the director of the Institute. According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/mediacentre.dh.gov.uk\/2011\/11\/21\/new-institute-to-help-narrow-the-health-gap\/\">press release<\/a>, the institute\u00a0 &#8220;aims to reduce health inequalities through action on the social determinants&#8221;. It will be funded by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dh.gov.uk\/en\/index.htm\">UK Department of Health<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/\">UCL <\/a>and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bma.org.uk\/\">British Medical Association.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For an insight of how this institute came to life, please read <a href=\"http:\/\/marmot-review.blogspot.com\/2011\/11\/institute-of-health-equity.html\">this post<\/a> by Professor Sir Michael Marmot on his <a href=\"http:\/\/marmot-review.blogspot.com\/\">personal blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We are very excited to see the work of this new institute and send them our best wishes!
