But we think we might be the first ones who tried to answer it <a href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s00038-016-0831-y\">using\u00a0a randomised study design<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>We like Social Media for many\u00a0reasons, as our year-long presence on twitter and facebook shows (hey, we even have a <a href=\"http:\/\/ijph.blogs.springer.com\/category\/social-media\/\">Social Media categor<\/a>y in our blog, as well as a relevant <a href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007%2Fs00038-014-0615-1\">Editoral <\/a>-check them out). As much as we like them, however, \u00a0as Editors of a scientific journal, as authors and as readers we could not\u00a0help but wonder: does exposure of scientific papers on Social Media have an effect on traditional impact measures such as downloads and citations?<\/p>\n<p>We hope that our\u00a0study will stimule some nice discussions between social media users about their effect in scientific papers (and how to measure it). As a corresponding author, I very much look forward to your comments!
